CONGRATS!!!

Sandra McClellan LAc is the winner of the Minnetonka Half Marathon~May 2, 2010.

The race was from Wayzata to Excelsior on a grueling course full of hills with 1384 female runners.

She set a PR of 1:24:57 and covered the 13.1 miles!

Great race and a great day.  I guess those Chinese Herbs do help;)

But on a more serious note the race and her efforts she dedicated to her late~Father Blair  and uncle-in-law Michael.

Blair Piechowski, was Sandra’s constant source of support and strength growing up and cheering her on but he never saw his daughter win a track or cross-country race. (Kinda tough when you race against Olympian Carrie Tollefson in High School).

Sometimes acupuncture and good healthy lifestyle practices aren’t convenient.  But that is what it takes for us to remain sustainable and avoiding rescue medicine.  The idea is to find peace and calm in the everyday tasks such as cooking your own food, gardening, walking instead of driving.  Just some food for thought.

With the recent insurance/health reform, Sanjay from CNN even says that just because you have an insurance card doesn’t mean there will be a better outcome.  He emphasizes the importance of preventative care medicine.  I guess I would like to coin ourselves that we are in the business of lifestyle medicine.  Sure we do acupuncture but much of what we do is counsel people on better habits and how to make it work for them.

This is a good read and a very pragmatic approach to the “mystery” of acupuncture.  Think of our medicine as an observational point of view.  You do a treatment whether it be acupuncture, herbs, dietary changes and you see the response.  Over the years these results have been documented and have become more of a sense of wisdom than hard facts.  This is difficult for those that desire an evidence-based approach to treatment.  Just as the sun rises you can assure someone that this is the outcome when you do certain treatments.  And we can say this by experience that has transcended generations for hundreds of years.
