He’s good.
I love Leo at Zen Habits. He’s got it. It isn’t what you can add to the mix, it is what you can take out that is more important. I love treating stress-related disorders at our Chanhassen clinic with acupuncture, patients respond really well. But when you go on your way and finish out your week, keep his thoughts in mind.

On insomnia
As I write this myself at 5 in the morning…
But, I gotta say, I love the mainstream stories. Our medicine is growing everyday.
In our Chanhassen clinic we use a combo of herbs and acupuncture…that can be very effective for the hardest cases.

This article is CRITICAL
For all the arguments about the efficacy of acupuncture and chinese medicine this is what it comes down to. This is written by a Trauma Surgeon in regards to Haiti and utilizing acupuncture points to diminish the pain of all the victims undergoing amputations and surgeries from being crushed from the earthquake. Because there is no help, no medicine, no tools available in those critical first days and now 9 days later. People are getting surgery with no pain meds and rusty hack saws as if it were the 1850’s…beyond imagination and deplorable, but REAL!
I think to myself here I am in comfortable MN at a moderately busy acupuncture clinic, (read…under-utilized) as something so simple as ear point acupressure can have the potential for enormous relief!!!

Magnesium
I like it when solutions are cheap and easy. Nothing wrong with adding a little Cal/Mag/Vit D to your routine.

If you have questions on this or are looking to integrate acupuncture into your life, we would love to help. Magnesium can help improve sleep and lessen the effects and instances of chronic headaches. At our Chanhassen Clinic we advocate the use of some western supplements because they can be sooo effective and soo easy.

Diabetes
This is one of our clinics specialties. This disease has been known about for thousands of years and has been treated with Chinese Medicine. We can improve therapeutic outcomes, decrease side-effects, and offer a more holistic and better management of the disease using our dietary methods. If you have questions on therapy using Chinese Medicine as an adjunct therapy to improve your health, we would love to talk with you.
I like what this article says about basically Western methods are too late and only addressing the symptoms. Worth a read.

Success
We had a nice turn-out today for our Cancer fundraiser. We introduced some people to acupuncture and raised a few hundred dollars for the leukemia and lymphoma society. I am going to chalk that up to a good day!

Cancer Fundraiser Dec 17th, 2009
The Minnesota Clinic of Integrated Medicine, are excited to announce that they are hosting a One Day Fundraising Event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) on Thursday December 17th from 10AM to 6PM. At this event, to be held at their office at 560 Market Street, Suite 11 in Chanhassen, members of the community will be treated to a one hour balance/stress relieving acupuncture protocol for only $40. This is a 50% savings off the normal rate of $80! Due to their amazing generosity, 100% of the treatment fees will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of our local 2009 Honoree, ‘Super’ Joey Jeglosky, age 5. This is a great opportunity for people to try acupuncture at half-off and support a very worthy cause in the process. Please call 952-294-9978 to schedule your appointment or stop by if you have any curiosity regarding treatment for any condition. Directions and much more information is available on their website, www.mnacupuncture.com
Here are some quick facts about leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, the three major types of blood cancer.
• Today, 913,000 Americans are living with a blood cancer; half won’t survive 5 years.
• Every 4 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Every 10 minutes someone will die.
• Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.
• LLS has funded more than $600 million in blood cancer research.
• Blood cancer research is a gateway for curing all cancers. Chemotherapy was originally developed by blood cancer researchers and is now used universally. Gleevec™, a drug used very successfully to treat a form of leukemia, is now used to treat six other forms of cancer.
We need to provide effective treatment for those diagnosed with these diseases, as well as hope for a better, more comfortable life for them, their family and their friends. Money is the heart of the problem; just having enough money to fund a clinical trial may be all that stands between death and a viable treatment!
Super Joey was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) on December 1, 2008 and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Many people, including the McClellan’s, have accepted the fundraising challenge as a way to support his fight against the disease. His courage, determination & spirituality are inspirational to anyone who follows his journey! You can track his story at his website, www.caringbridge.org/visit/josephjeglosky. So far so good. J
Unfortunately, not all stories have a happy ending. Another local child, McKenna, was diagnosed with Anaplastic Large T-Cell Lymphoma (ALCL), a rare form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, when she was just 2 ½ years old. For the next 7 ½ years, McKenna bravely fought her cancer. After receiving her second bone marrow transplant she relapsed and was readmitted to the hospital. On McKenna’s 10th birthday she could no longer breathe on her own. Just a few weeks later, on her mother’s birthday, McKenna passed away. Can you even begin to fathom what it must be like for a parent to lose a child? McKenna may have lost her battle but we will do what we can to continue the fight for her and others like her.
The McClellan’s want to help this cause in any way possible and that means reaching out to all of you to raise as much money as we can. Keeping the awareness alive and finding cures and treatments for a disease that threatens so many lives is worth it, don’t you agree? Would you help in this effort? Here’s what you can do.
o Please come to our one day fundraising event on December 17th and take advantage of the generosity of the McClellan’s. Remember, only $40 for a one hour acupuncture treatment!
o If you are unable to come, please make a secure online donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by using the following link: http://pages.teamintraining.org/mn/pfchangs10/sgunther Or, send a check (made out to “LLS”) and mail it to 3628 Hickory Road, Excelsior, MN 55331.
o Please forward this email to your friends and family with a note from you asking for their help.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support! With warmest regards,
Steve Gunther
