On insomnia

As I write this myself at 5 in the morning…

But, I gotta say, I love the mainstream stories.  Our medicine is growing everyday.

Better Sleep

In our Chanhassen clinic we use a combo of herbs and acupuncture…that can be very effective for the hardest cases.

This article is CRITICAL

For all the arguments about the efficacy of acupuncture and chinese medicine this is what it comes down to.  This is written by a Trauma Surgeon in regards to Haiti and utilizing acupuncture points to diminish the pain of all the victims undergoing amputations and surgeries from being crushed from the earthquake.  Because there is no help, no medicine, no tools available in those critical first days and now 9 days later.  People are getting surgery with no pain meds and rusty hack saws as if it were the 1850’s…beyond imagination and deplorable, but REAL!

I think to myself here I am in comfortable MN at a moderately busy acupuncture clinic, (read…under-utilized) as something so simple as ear point acupressure can have the potential for enormous relief!!!

Here is an easy Xmas List

7 easy ways to stay warm in Chanhassen with some winter spices that you can add to your Holiday meals.  Acupuncture is more than just needles, we incorporate a lot of food therapy into our patients treatment.  As far as we are concerned medicine starts at home, especially in the kitchen.

The cost of care…

Here is a quick read on the cost of care around the world.  What would make this better would be to include malpractice/litigation cost ratio’s associated with these procedures.  We could better understand the costs incurred due the excess lawyering we have in this country.  One fortunate side-effect with acupuncture is that in the medical world we have extremely lost malpractice insurance costs.  This translates into less expensive care for you the end user.  Our typical treatment is less than half of what just an office visit is here with no tests/blodd panels/prescriptions.  Strep throat may cost/billed as much as $400 when it is all said and done with the culture.  That is crazy for such a straightforward issue…something to think about and how you want to spend your HSA dollars.

It does a nice job of representing all the perspectives that we in the CAM field face.  It is nice to see some neurologist say something nice our way!  Exhaust those conservative methods first.  It is better and cheaper in the long run.

This is what we do

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs are a mystery to most.  Sure we treat difficult conditions and we perplex people with our talk of Qi, exotic herbal names, and esoteric energy metaphors.  But I like this article because this is ultimately what our Traditional Chinese Medicine can provide to our society.  Better health, fewer incidences of disease, and at less cost to all of us.
